Paper 1: Shakespeare and the 19th-century novel

Questions
Section A Shakespeare: you will answer one question on Romeo and Juliet. You will be required to write in detail about an extract from the play and then to write about the play as a whole. The question is worth 34 marks (4 marks for written expression).
Section B The 19th-century novel: you will answer one question on A Christmas Carol. You will be required to write in detail about an extract from the novel and then to write about the novel as a whole. The question is worth 30 marks.

Paper 2: Modern texts and poetry

How it's assessed
  • written exam: 2 hour 15 minutes

Questions
Section A Modern texts: You will answer one essay question from a choice of two on An Inspector Calls. The question is worth 34 marks (4 marks for written expression).
Section B Poetry: You will answer one comparative question on one named poem printed on the paper and one other poem from the Power and Conflict anthology cluster. The question is worth 30 marks.
Section C Unseen poetry: You will answer one question on one unseen poem  (this question is worth 24 marks) and one question comparing this poem with a second unseen poem (this question is worth 8 marks).
